MIL-DTL-62366D(AT)
4.3.4.1 Fungus (nonoperating) verification. To determine conformance to 3.3.2, in the
event that the manufacturer certifies only non-nutrients have been used, the fungus test may be
omitted; otherwise, the slip ring assembly shall be tested and pass the fungus test as specified in
MIL-STD-810, method 508.4, or equivalent (see 4.3.1).
4.3.5 Operating requirements verification. To determine conformance to 3.4 the slip ring
assembly shall be subjected to and pass the tests as specified in 4.3.5.1 through 4.3.5.7. All tests
described herein shall be conducted in a suitable test fixture. The slip ring assembly shall be
mounted with the mounting base horizontal as specified in figure 1.
4.3.5.1 Starting torque verification. To determine conformance to 3.4.1, apply a
tangential force to the slip ring flange at a known distance from the center of rotation. The
distance to the center of rotation and the applied force required to initiate motion of the rotor
assembly shall be observed. The starting torque shall not exceed 62.5 lbf-in (7.1 N-m).
4.3.5.2 Normal speed verification. To determine conformance to 3.4.2 and 3.4.4,
perform the applicable operational performance test as specified below.
Class I -
Complete an operational cycle consisting of rotations at 7.5 rpm for
8 revolutions. The direction of rotation shall be reversed after each cycle.
The slip ring assembly shall operate smoothly and continuously during
direction reversal prior to the completion of 1 revolution. The rotation of the
slip ring assembly shall be stopped in not greater than 0.25±0.05 seconds
when changing the direction of rotation. During any 3 of the 8 revolutions in
each cycle, a current of 160±16 A shall be passed through rings 1 and 2,
connected in series, with a duty cycle of 10±1 second on and 30±1 second off.
A current of at least 2.5 A shall be passed through rings 3 through
17 connected in series for not less than 3 revolutions in each cycle. Each
current shall be inspected for loss of continuity. The slip ring assembly shall
pass this test within the parameters specified without failure, degradation of
performance, or damage to the unit.
Class II - Complete an operational cycle consisting of rotations at 7.5 rpm for
8 revolutions.
During any 3 of the 8 revolutions in
each cycle, a current of 160±16 A shall be passed through rings 37 and 38,
connected in series, with a duty cycle of 10±1 second on and 30±1 second off.
A current of 30±5 A shall be passed through rings 33 through 36 connected in
series for not less than 3 revolutions in each cycle. A current of at least 2.5 A
shall be passed through rings 1 through 6, 8 through 12, 14 through 19, 21
through 26, and 28 through 31, connected in series for not less than 3
revolutions in each cycle. A 1 MHz TTL square-wave signal, with a
maximum current of 0.25 A, shall be passed through rings 14 through 19, 21
